As Book Trailers Go, Shteyngart’s is a Good One

by Matt Creamer on August 12, 2010

I haven’t read “Super Sad True Love Story,” Gary Shteyngart’s new and much buzzed-about novel, and I don’t know if I will. I do know that this trailer is kind of funny, even if it doesn’t really have anything to do with what I understand about the book. It gets bonus points for featuring James Franco, even though I’ve realized that James Franco is becoming a bit too ubiquitous for my tastes.

It doesn’t, however, rise to the level of this video for “Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.”

Wait, you READ 'Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters?" WEIRD.

This was the 1st book trailer I watched, after hearing and reading about it all over the place. I sighed & read it. It's memorable more because it got a lot of attention and less because of what was in it.

Shteyngart's illiterate, I get that that's funny because he's a writer. But less funny because I remember that Russians are retards who can't tell the difference between garbage and food shtick when Yakov Smirnov did it.
